Super Drift Competition SDC 2026 SoCal Region Round 3
July 17, 2026

This past weekend Super-G hosted the SoCal Region Round 3 for Super Drift Competition SDC 2026 Series. We had 60 competitors this time around and the driving was awesome as always. It's just what we have come to expect, but it doesn't make it any less exciting.

The Judges for this round were Shaine Collins, Brandon Britt, and Mike Holes. They did an amazing job as always. They were using the SDC.RCDrift.io app with some further tweaks, and I have to say Josh Parrett has really outdone himself. It has really streamlined the comps for us on the backend, and the way it shows qualifying scores by sorting by qualifying position realtime just adds to the excitement.
This round we implemented a 3 minute time limit on the judges calls. If the battle was so close that a call cannot be made within 3 minutes, a OMT (One More Time) is called. If it reaches a point where they end up on a 3rd OMT, 4 minutes will be allowed and a winner will be chosen at that time. Our thinking on this is to opt for another battle rather than to pick apart the fine details of a battle to choose a winner. If both competitors runs were that close, let's see them battle again.

Top Qualifier of SDC 2026 SoCal Region Round 3
Alfredo Chan III - Team Weld / Overdose
Qualifying
Going into Round 3 I thought Zone 4 was going to be giving the competitors problems. As it turns out, Zone 2 seemed to be the tough one. With no rail for a reference, there were a lot of 2 wheels out, and a lot of competitors would leave the zone early, basically taking them from a solid 7-10 on line, to a Zero. The importance of riding the zone out completely was clear this round.
Qualifying ResultsEven with a few challenging zones, there were 4 competitors in the high 80s. Shaine Collins - Team Super-G, Mikko Yang - Team Reve D USA, Jason Fordyce - Team Super-G, and Alfredo Chan III - Team Weld/Overdose. Overall, Alfredo was able to pull off an amazing 89 point run, and taking the title of Top Qualifier (TQ) for Round 3! Congratulations Alfredo!
Battles
I know I say it every time, but in all seriousness, even the battles in the Lower 28 are really good. Even a couple years back the battles in Lower 28 would have easily been in the Top 32. The Bottom 28 came down to Marc Marquez - Trademarq Garage and Jonathan Belda - Tech 1 Drift. Jonathan was able to pull off the win and advance to the 31st spot in the Top 32. Good job Jonathan!
Top 32In the Top 32 it all came down to Shaine Collins - Team Super-G vs. Jason Fordyce - Team Super-G for 3rd and 4th, and Alfredo Chan III - Team Weld / Overdose vs. Mikko Yang - Team Reve D USA for 1st and 2nd.
First up was Shaine vs. Jason. Shaine was on the Lead and Jason on the Chase. Shaine put down a really solid lead run, while Jason put down an amazing chase! Then they switched it up. Entering Zone 1, Jason had a slight miscalculation and made contact with the barrier. This was enough to lock Shaine in for 3rd place!

The Winners of SoCal Region Round 3! First Place - Mikko Yang, Team Reve D USA. Second Place - Alfredo Chan III Team Weld / Overdose. Third Place - Shaine Collins - Team Super-G.
Then it was time for the Finals. First up was Alfredo on the Lead and Mikko on the Chase. Alfredo put down an aggressive Lead and Mikko was really putting the pressure on. Then it was Mikko on the Lead and Alfredo on the Chase. Mikko has added some aggression to his driving this round and really put down a great Lead. He was going deep and making sure everyone knew he meant business. Alfredo was really tight on his chase and really applying the pressure. These runs were almost carbon copies, however in Zone 1, Mikko hit it deep, but Alfredo hit it deeper. A little too deep and he made contact. This was enough to give Mikko the win, and the top spot on the podium with 1st Place! Alfredo 2nd Place, and Shaine Collins 3rd Place! Congratulations guys!!!
