SDC Super Drift Competition 2025 SoCal Region Round 3

April 19, 2025
This past weekend Super-G hosted the SDC Super Drift Competition 2025 SoCal Region Round 3 here in Los Angeles, CA. Being that it was Easter weekend, we weren’t sure what to expect. Dave didn’t want to help us out with any predictions this time, so we were on our own. As it came closer, received a few messages from people who were not going to make it. So it was clear this round was going to be smaller than the previous ones. Round 2 was 82 competitors, Round 3 ended up being a manageable 62.

This time around we opened doors at 10:00am and also had Pre-Registration. This really sped things up a lot when we opened and we had a good group of people with their tires, ready to go, and on the track by 10:07am. We started controlled practice at 10:30am and it seemed everyone was able to get some decent practice time in. Not bad! This will be the new way we will attack Comp Days.

The Judges for Round 3 were the usual suspects, Shaine Collins, Manny Campalans, and Brandon Britt. We are always fortunate to have these guys come out and make this happen. It’s not an easy task and judging here at Super-G really puts you to the test. Even with the reduced number of competitors this round, they still had to remain hyper-focused on 124 qualifying runs, and as many battles. Thank you guys for all you do!!!

Qualifying
We started the Driver’s Meeting at 2:00pm and by 2:30pm we were starting into Qualifying. As usual, the competitors put on a show with some serious driving. This time around we were seeing some good scores with the majority ranging from high 50’s to mid 80’s. Jason Fordyce of Team Super-G was the last to qualify. He came out of the gates and broke out of the 80’s and scored a solid 90 points! That was an amazing run, but he had another shot to better his already TQ (Top Qualifier) Score. Jason takes his second run and really puts it down! The crowd gasped as he initiated hard on the entry to the Sweeper, and rode the rail with millimeters to spare. It was truly a run to see in person, and enough for Jason to lock down TQ once again!!! Congratulations Jason!!!

Tsuiso - The Battles
This round we had ended up with a Top 32 and a Lower Bracket which ended up with 30 competitors since we had a couple of people who did not show up.
In the Lower Bracket, Max Demoss managed to work his way through the field and finally battling Kris Steele for the bump-up to Top 32. Max was able to hold it together and moved into the Top 32! Great job Max!!!
Coming into the. Top 32, Max Demoss of Team Coefficient faced off with Shaine Collins of Team Super-G. Shaine was able to pull off the win and this ended the day for Max. Any time someone bumps up to the Top 32 is a win in my books! Great job Max!!!

The Top 32 boiled down to Vittorio Santiago of Team Shibata vs. David Wessel of Team BubbleMilk for First and Second, and Mikko Yang of Team Reve D vs. Adam Hokoki of Team RCO for Third and Forth.
First up was Mikko vs. Adam. Mikko was on the Lead and Adam on the Chase. Mikko put down a really good Lead Run and Adam had answered back with a really tight Chase. They switched positions and Adam put down a serious Lead. Mikko produced an equally good Chase, but had made contract with the barrier entering Zone 1. That was enough for Adam to secure the 3rd spot on the podium! Congratulations Adam!!!

Then it all came down to the final battle, Vittorio vs. David for First and Second Place! First up was Vittorio on the Lead and David on the Chase. Vittorio threw down a wicked Lead and David answered back with a really good Chase. They switched positions and David produced a really good and aggressive Lead. Vittorio was right on his door the entire run! It was a really exciting and close run. The deciding factor was on Dave’s Lead Run, he made slight contact entering the sweeper. This was enough to sway it in Vittorio’s favor, and to place Vittorio on the top spot on the podium! Congratulations Vittorio on First Place, and David on a hard fought for. Second Place!!!

Thanks to everyone who came out on this holiday weekend! Round 3 was one of the smoothest rounds yet. Also a huge thank you to ScaleMagic, Ninjonaah, and Sean Lewis Media for coming out and covering the event. And Randy - Hanapaa Kine Grindz for always providing the good eats!
Congratulations to First Place - Vittorio Santiago of Team Shibata, Second Place - David Wessel of Team BubbleMilk, and Third Place - Adam Hokoki of Team RCO!!! Also Jason for killing it during Qualifying and locking down TQ!!!
