Super SmackDown 2018 (pt. 1) - Super-G R/C Drift Arena
August 18, 2018 (8.18.18)
On Saturday, August 18, 2018 R/C Drift Enthusiasts from all over California gathered at Super-G R/C Drift Arena in Baldwin Park, CA for the Super SmackDown 2018! It was Super-G's first Official Comp of the year, complete with Triple Team Tandem Battles, Tsuiso Battles, and Concours. Our Drift Family from NorCal, San Diego, Bakersfield, and right here in SoCal all came together for a killer event!
Doors opened at 1pm, and people were ready to get their practice on.
Since we were hosting a comp later that evening, a few people showed up to break in the Handout Spec Tires we would be running. Yokomo DRC was the choice for this comp.
There were a few 3 Man Teams practicing for the Triple Team Tandem Competition we were also hosting. This is something that hasn't seemed to catch on quite yet in the States, but is huge in the land of the land of the rising sun. It's a very different type of competition since you are competing as a team against other teams. It is based on the team's performance when compared to the other teams. It's a lot of fun, but so far we are getting about 6-9 teams per comp.
Of course we were cooking up some food to keep everyone's energy up. Chicken Tacos and Dogs were on the menu for the day! We've been getting some serious use from our Flat-Top Grill / Taco Cart.
Of course the best part of the entire weekend was hanging out with all of the Cali Drift Fam! Our bros from NorCal, Limited Traction, Fatlace / Team Bushido, and SpeedJunkies made the journey down. Our fam from GGT came out, and even one of the Vertex regulars made the drive. I can't forget my man Jacob from Bakersfield also. The Super-G regulars are always excited to have our extended family in the house to bang doors.
I was lucky enough to break away from the madness for a bit to sit and talk with some of the guys from Limited Traction. It looks like there is going to be a lot more of this type of event going on. We were even discussing trying to go bigger in the near future. With the community growing as it is, this shouldn't be a problem. Stay tuned for more and better!
