Saturday Night Showdowns Series Winners (Fun Comp Series)

This is ONLY for the Weekly Fun Comps – Saturday Night Showdowns.
The Super Showdown Comps AND point series are unaffected.

This past Saturday we here at Super-G R/C Drift Arena concluded our weekly fun comp series a few months early. What started as a casual, informal competition among friends had turned into something a bit more serious. More serious than we were comfortable with, especially for a weekly, non-paid competition.

We would like to thank everyone who participated and supported us and the weekly fun comp series. We feel Saturdays would be better spent on open sessions. We will still host Fun Comps in the future, but for the time being we will be taking a break.

Congratulations to our winners, Hao Huang who missed the beginning of the series, but still managed to pull off the first place win with 114 points! Alan Benites with a extremely close second place with 113 points, and Tim Mulhmeyer with a comfortable third place with 103 points.

April 13, 2019 Saturday Night Showdowns (Round 9)

Write caption…

This past weekend was our first competition with the underpass of the Super-G Bridge that is presently under construction. Although we have been running this layout for the past month, the visual of the new prop seemed to make things a little different for everyone participating. This combined with our new Spec Tire, DS Racing – RWD FFFF Zero Mark II seemed to change it all up enough to give it a new spin.

Just for fun we have made the Saturday Night Showdowns a point series. It’s all for fun and every participant receives points which will be used at the end of the year.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

In recent months we (as well as others in the pits) have seen a rise in bothered competitors after they lose a battle. We have also noticed a decrease in the competitors interest/attention during the Driver’s Meetings. Coincidence? I don’t believe so. So this week I put into play rotating judges. Every week I will have new judges helping me out. Everyone thinks it’s easy, but I know everyone will be in for a surprise. In addition, it will help educate them on what the judges are looking for and in turn will make them better drivers. This week was Alan Benites as the guest judge and he did great!

The Finals – Ethan David (L) and Hao Huang (R)

New Spec Tire 2 weeks later:
The new Spec Tires, DS Racing – RWD FFFF Zero Mark II have proven to be a great move for Super-G! Details to come.

This weeks top four had come down to Ethan David vs. Hao Huang for 1st and 2nd Place, and Tim Mulhmeyer vs. Joe Tam for 3rd and 4th spot! First up was Tim vs. Joe. Joe was piloting the new Rhino-Max chassis since he’s been curious as to how it’s going to perform in a comp setting. The battles were tight as expected and really what we are accustom to seeing in the Top 4! Unfortunately on the last clip on Joe’s lead run, he got a little too excited and over-rotated. It wasn’t bad, but it was enough to give Tim the win and lock in 3rd spot!

The Winners, 1st – Hao Huang, 2nd – Ethan David, and 3rd – Tim Mulhmeyer

When we got to the Main Event, we had 2 competitors who are no strangers to that top podium spot, Ethan and Hao. We knew it was going to be a great battle and they didn’t disappoint! Both Ethan and Hao laid down some serious leads! Nothing to complain about, that’s for sure! It really all came down to the chases. Ethan gave a great chase! One that would normally be enough to take the win, but this was Hao’s night, and he pulled an insane chase out! Every transition was within a hair of Ethan’s bumper, and he matched angle and went deeper on all the clips! Hao took the Top Podium Spot and Ethan locked down 2nd place!!! Great driving to the both of them, and congratulations to Hao for taking home the win!

3/30/19 Saturday Night Showdowns (Round 8)

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is SNS-Logo-1024x312.jpg

Another Saturday Night Showdowns this past weekend, and the competition was as fierce as ever! We were lucky enough to have Shilun Gu (Allen) from NorCal joining us for some added excitement! Joe, our regular announcer for our events was out for the night, so one of our own RawFew, Nick Lepisto jumped on the mic. He did a great job and I found myself really enjoying the change of pace. Thanks Nick for stepping up and handing that for us!

Just for fun we have made the Saturday Night Showdowns a point series. It’s all for fun and every participant receives points which will be used at the end of the year.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

The judges for the night were Manny Campalans, Kevin Motter, and myself. You guys did a great job at the difficult task of judging! Thank you for helping out!

Final Round – Shilun Gu (Red) vs. Aydin Angulo (Silver)

For this weeks competition I decided to leave the clipping points from the previous week since everyone is still becoming familiar with the new layout. It looks like everyone has adapted and the runs were impressive.

The Top 4 came down to Mark Santa Cruz vs Manny Campalans for 3rd and 4th, and Shilun Gu vs. Aydin Angulo for 1st and 2nd. First up was Manny vs. Mark and on the first sweeper Manny ran into a bit of trouble and ended up short-cutting the track. Although he was able to finish his run with Mark on the chase, it really left the door open to an easy victory for Mark. As expected, on Mark’s lead run he was able to put down a smooth run to lock down the 3rd podium spot for the night.

1st Place – Shilun Gu, 2nd Place – Aydin Angulo, 3rd Place – Mark Santa Cruz

Then it was time for the Main Event! Aydin Angulo vs. Shilun Gu (Allen) for the Top Podium Spot! Aydin was able to pull out a great lead, but Allen was determined to show us what he’s all about, and pulled off some amazing proximity with the smoothness to match. On the next run, Allen put down a great lead and Aydin answered back with a great chase. In the end, it wasn’t enough to overcome Allen’s chase, so Allen took home the “W” and Aydin took a respectable 2nd Place!

3/23/19 Saturday Night Showdowns (Round 7)

This entire week had been really busy, so we didn’t know what to expect on Saturday. Were people really going to come out all 3 days? As it turns out, yes they did! We were missing a few regulars, but Tech1Drift came out again and seemed they were determined to make their mark on the Saturday Night Showdowns.

Just for fun we have made the Saturday Night Showdowns a point series. It’s all for fun and every participant receives points which will be used at the end of the year.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

Judging for the evening was Colin Chambers, Shaine Colins, and myself. Thanks for the help guys!

After Comp Session

This was the first competition on the new Super-G layout! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect since this is the only layout we had previously that we brought back, I was really hoping it would work out for a comp. I was glad to find out it worked really well and with the additional lines we have made provisions for, it should prove to be a long-term winner.

The Top 4 came down to Kevin Motter vs. Manny Campalans for 3rd and 4th spots, and Alfredo Chan III vs. Colin Chambers for 1st and 2nd. Both put down some serious runs, but in the end Kevin came out victorious being deeper in the clips and holding more angle for the 3rd spot on the podium. Manny grabbed a respectable 4th. Then it was time for the Main Event, Alfredo vs. Colin. On the first round both Alfredo and Colin had some issues with making contact. We had to call it even and go for a OMT (One More Time)! It was clear both these guys wanted to take home the win, so out of the gate Alfredo threw some mad speed at Colin! Colin answered back by keeping great proximity and keeping in line with his chase! Then it was Colin’s lead and Alfredo was hot on his door! Then it happened, Colin over-rotated and it was all over! Alfredo took home the Top Spot!!! Colin took a hard fought 2nd place, but he mentioned something about it still being a win since he beat Kevin. Ha!

1st Place – Alfredo Chan III, 2nd Place – Colin Chambers, 3rd Place – Kevin Motter

Then it was time for the Main Event, Ethan vs. Manny for that top spot and winner of the night! First to lead was Manny and as is expected, he pulled out a great lead! Deep in the clips with great angle. Ethan answered back with a great chase, matching angle, and tight proximity! The pressure was on and it was Ethan’s turn to lead. Both these guys were obviously feeling the pressure since they both did so well in the first run. Out of the gate Manny was all over Ethan’s bumper! That didn’t seem to shake Ethan and he threw down a great lead. This was an identical run to the first, THEN IT HAPPENED. On the transition from the second to the last clip to the last, Manny made a SLIGHT miscalculation putting him in position to impede Ethan’s transition and cause contact and throw Ethan’s line off. Ethan takes the win over Manny and takes home the win! Manny takes a hard fought 2nd place which is no easy feat against Super-G’s very own Ethan!

3/16/19 Saturday Night Showdowns (Week 6)

Now that we are back to our normal schedule again, it was time for another night of Saturday Night Showdowns! There were a few 1:1 motorsports events this past weekend so we anticipated the turnout to be a little low. Even a few of our team members weren’t able to make it since they were out doing the full scale thing. Surprisingly, the turn out was good as was the driving!

We had a special visit from Tech1Drift and one of their own fought their way into the Top 8! It was Tyler Hill’s first comp and he did it with style.

Just for fun we have made the Saturday Night Showdowns a point series. It’s all for fun and every participant receives points which will be used at the end of the year.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

Judging for the evening was Manny Campalans and myself. Thanks Manny for stepping up and helping out.

The real story was the after session. It was non-stop trains 9-11 cars and everyone was on point! I kept wanting to stop to go live or get some video footage, but I ended up in front and was having just too much fun. I don’t think anyone wanted to stop. Ha!

The King of the Hill battles were awesome with a few first-timers making their debut here at Super-G! They did great and got to feel the pressure of competition. That’s what the Saturday Night Showdowns are all about, get used to competing and feeling comfortable, with really nothing at stake. Just come out and run with your friends!

The Top 4 came down to Mark Santa Cruz vs. Alan Benites for 3rd and 4th spots, and Ethan David vs. Manny Campalans for 1st and 2nd. Mark and Alan put on a good show with some really great driving. Both did what was needed to win, but Alan was able to put together a better overall chase and keep better proximity to lock down the win and 3rd spot on the podium!

First Place – Ethan David, Second Place – Manny Campalans, Third Place – Alan Benites

Saturday Night Showdowns week 5
This week the Saturday Night Showdowns were extra special since we were joined by the rest of our drift family from NorCal! Anyone who has been here at Super-G when our guys come down knows there is no better place to be! This Saturday was no exception!

Just for fun we have made the Saturday Night Showdowns a point series. It’s all for fun and every participant receives points which will be used at the end of the year.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

Judging for the evening was Colin Chambers and myself. Thank you Colin for stepping up for the difficult task of judging.

We had 20 competitors this week, so you know it was going to be good!

Couldn’t fit the entire train, but you can bet it was EPIC!

The Top 4 came down to Hao Huang vs Alan Benites for 1st and 2nd place, and Mikko Yang vs Manny Campalans for 3rd and 4th place. I must apologize for my lack of coverage of the finals. I wasn’t feeling well, and as I am writing this I realized I have no recollection of how the battles went down.

In the end, Hao took 1st place, Alan 2nd, Mikko 3rd, and Manny bringing up the end at 4th place! Congratulations to Hao Huang on a well deserved win! Originally from NorCal, Hao says he seems to drive better when his NorCal backup is in the house! I personally think he always drives well, but the wins do prove it! We also witnessed the changing of the leader in our points series!!! Alan Benites is the current points leader! The man is a beast!

Saturday Night Showdowns week 4
The Saturday Night Showdowns are always a blast, and this past weekend was no exception! I have to say even the after session this past weekend was off the hook! Trains were getting sick! I did 3 batteries non-stop cause it was too good! I hope this trend continues.

Since we were coming off our SuperShowdown weekend, the vibe was light and all about fun! Aydin Angulo was gunning for his second in a row.

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

Judging for the evening was Colin Chambers, Kevin Motter, and myself. Thank you Colin and Kevin for taking the time to help judge!

We had 12 competitors this week. It was a bit slow, but people seemed to be showing up late.

Manny Campalans Purple/Green vs. Hao Huang Gold for 1st and 2nd

The Top 4 came down to Kevin Motter vs. Aydin Angulo for 3rd and 4th, and Manny Campalans vs. Hao Huang for 1st and 2nd! All 4 of these guys were ON FIRE ALL NIGHT! First up was Kevin and Aydin. Aydin puts down an amazing lead! Deep deep in the clips! Of course Kevin on the chase was answering back as deep as Aydin could dish out, with some insane proximity to boot! Then Kevin takes the lead and was so close to the barriers you would swear he’s doing some sort of magic trick to keep from actually making contact. Aydin was hot on his tail the entire run, but in the end it wasn’t enough. Both these drivers drove amazingly. At this level, smoothness and corrections were the focus, and Kevin took home the win and 3rd on the Podium!

Next up was Manny vs. Hao for 1st and 2nd spot! Out of the gate you could tell both these guys wanted it bad! Manny put down an amazing lead and Hao was right on him the entire run! We knew it was going to be a tough one to call with driving like this! Then Hao takes the lead and out of the gate Manny is on him! Through the first straight it was tight, but unfortunately Hao had a miscalculation on his entry to the sweeper causing him to have pretty severe contact with the barrier on the first clip. That was all she wrote, giving Manny the Top Podium Spot, and taking home 1st! Hao took home a well earned 2nd place!

1st Place – Manny Campalans, 2nd Place – Hao Huang, 3rd Place – Kevin Motter

Saturday Night Showdowns week 3
It was another great weekend here at Super-G R/C Drift Arena! The competition at the Saturday Night Showdowns is getting good! The mood has been light and it looks like everyone is getting comfortable with competing. That’s the objective of the SNS.

Tim Mulhmeyer was shooting for his second win in a row, but as always, the competition is always fierce!

Points will be awarded as follows:
15 pts – First Place
12 pts – Second Place
10 pts – Third Place
8 pts – Forth Place
7 pts – Fifth Place (Remainder of Top 8)
6 pts – Participation Points

Judging for the evening was Colin Chambers and myself. Thank you Colin for taking the time to help judge!

We had 16 competitors this week, Shilun Gu (Allen) joined us from NorCal which is always fun! The Top 4 came down to Hao Huang vs Alan Benites for 3rd and 4th, and Mark Santa Cruz vs. Aydin Angulo for 1st and 2nd! Both Hao and Alan have some mad speed and they both used it for their final battles! Although both put up a great fight, Hao straightened in a couple area giving Alan the edge, and also 3rd Place on the Podium! Then it was Mark vs. Aydin for the Top Spot! Great runs by both competitors, but Mark had made contact with one of the barriers, securing his 2nd place spot. Aydin emerged the winner taking 1st Place for the night! Congratulations Aydin!

Aydin Angulo – 1st / Mark Santa Cruz – 2nd / Alan Benites- 3rd

Congratulations to our winners of the Saturday Night Showdowns week 3! Can’t wait to get it on next Saturday!!! See you then!
